FOIL YOUR FABRIC SUPPLY LIST

DESCRIPTION

It’s fun, fast, flashy and easy to learn. Foil, in colors of the rainbow, can be transferred to fabric to create spectacular special effects for use in both quilts and garments. The class will acquaint you with the techniques, and provide you with a series of samples for future inspiration.

Supply List:

  • Variety of fabrics in approximately 12" x 12" size – enough to provide you with at least 12 different samples. Select from your stash – silks, cottons, sheers, and synthetics* – whatever attracts your fancy. This doesn’t mean 12 fabrics that are different from one another – it’s fun to see the different effects that can be obtained from the same fabric. Bring a range of values and textures.
*Fabrics with a smooth finish produce the best results. Coarse weaves, such as Polar Fleece or wool blends, do not produce a crisp image.
  • Styrofoam tray (the kind meat comes in at the grocery store), or a small plastic plate
  • Small amount of Wonder-Under, or any fusible(except heavy Heat n'Bond) that you have handy -- ¼ yard or less
  • Old towel (any towel will do, but it may become permanently stained)
  • Foam brush applicators – 1" and 2" sizes
  • Pencil
  • Small ruler (if you have one)
  • Scissors
  • Xacto knife with #11 blade
  • E6000 glue, or Goop (sold in craft stores such as Michaels or JoAnn Fabrics. There may be other suitable brands — what you need is a waterproof adhesive which permanently bonds disparate mediums together, i.e. plastics, wood, metals, etc). Instructor will have a tube available for class use, if you can’t find it locally.
  • Old and/or cheap iron, which can be used with fusibles and sticky stuff.

  • Optional – If you have them, bring stamps, which have simple shapes, i.e. hearts, circles, triangles, etc. There will be plenty of stamps provided by the instructor for class use, so there is no need to make a special purchase.

Student fee:  $20.00 -- includes foil starter kit, foil adhesive, and stamp making supplies.
